In this study, a novel ternary layered rare earth boron-carbon compound Sc<sub>2<\/sub>B<sub>1.1<\/sub>C<sub>3.2<\/sub>\u00a0was successfully synthesized through an in-situ hot pressing method. The physical and mechanical properties of Sc<sub>2<\/sub>B<sub>1.1<\/sub>C<sub>3.2<\/sub>\u00a0were characterized for the first time, encompassing Young&#8217;s modulus (228\u202fGPa), shear modulus (94\u202fGPa), bulk modulus (131\u202fGPa), Poisson&#8217;s ratio (0.21), Vickers hardness (4.5\u202f\u00b1\u202f0.3\u202fGPa), flexural strength (296\u202f\u00b1\u202f5.8\u202fMPa), fracture toughness (7.03\u202f\u00b1\u202f0.37\u202fMPa\u00b7m<sup>1\/2<\/sup>), electrical conductivity (1.21\u202f\u00d710<sup>\u22126<\/sup>\u00a0Ohm\u00b7m), thermal conductivity (23.86\u202fW\/(m\u00b7K)), heat capacity (0.78\u202fJ\/(g\u00b7K)) and thermal expansion coefficient (7.33\u202f\u00d710<sup>\u22126<\/sup>\u00a0K<sup>\u22121<\/sup>).
